Route Safe Provides a Safe Route for Company Drivers
Engineering company Weir Services Ltd operate from 9 centres throughout the UK and use a fleet of approximately 300 vehicles.
As a result of the HSE high level campain to aimed at reducing at work driving accidents, management made the decision to address Driving at Work issues within the company. After meeting with aide automotive staff to discuss the content of the Route-Safe system, final customised proofs were produced to tailor the system to exactly match their needs. This included adding the company corporate logo, matching colours and providing additional information on the driving standards the company expected from its employees.
A decision was taken at this point to maximise the safe driving message and raise awareness to as high an impact as possible. Accident statistics were reviewed and identifyed that there were 5 major causes of road accidents.
Customised Route-Safe kits were produced including a Safe Driving Mission Statement which incorporated these 5 causes of accidents.
Management training was undertaken and then drivers attended a Road Safety toolbox talk. After training the safety kits were fitted to all company vehicles plus employees own vehicles used on a casual mileage basis.
A Pro-active approach to Managing Occupational Road Risk achieved.
