Diesel Theft Prevention<\/strong> from aide automotive ltd<\/p>\n

Lorry drivers in South Yorkshire are being urged to be on their guard against thieves stealing fuel.<\/p>\n

Diesel worth more than \u00a31,000 was stolen from lorries parked at an industrial estate on Meadow Way, Swinton, Rotherham, while drivers slept overnight on Sunday into Monday.<\/p>\n

Another lorry, parked at Kilnhurst Road, Rawmarsh, was also targeted between 6pm on Sunday and 3.25am on Monday.<\/p>\n

Police said the driver of that lorry heard a noise at the back of his vehicle and climbed out of the cab to find a siphoning hose near the tank.<\/p>\n

Protecting Truck Fuel Tanks<\/a> can be as simple as fitting an Anti Siphon Device, anti siphon devices are simple to fit, taking no more than a few minutes, with no drilling or gluing to a fuel tank.<\/p>\n

Truck Manufacturers include, Volvo, MAN, DAF, Iveco, Scania, Renault, Foden, Hino & Mercedes.<\/p>\n

PC Andy Robinson, crime reduction project officer, said: \u201cWe\u2019d urge drivers to use secure truck-stop facilities, which will be well lit, have CCTV and mean they\u2019ll be alongside other lorry drivers, rather than parking in a lay-by or close to their drop off point.\u00a0Diesel Theft Prevention is advised.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d encourage business people to spread this message to delivery drivers, because if thieves can steal fuel from a wagon, they could also potentially steal the load that\u2019s being carried.\u201d<\/p>\n

PC Robinson said that drivers for local hauliers should not fill up vehicles at night so they are ready to leave yards in a morning, as it might make them susceptible to theft.<\/p>\n

Witnesses to the fuel thefts, or anyone with information about those responsible, are asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.<\/p>\n
