A truck driver who hit and killed a pedestrian when the brakes on his truck failed has been jailed for 12 months and disqualified for two years. Police found the trucks brakes were operating at a 35% efficiency, with 50% being the minimum legal requirement. Paul Duckmonton, the proprietor of CarTrans, was cleared of manslaughter but sentenced to eight months in prison for perverting the cause of justice. Site foreman Terence Gledall was also sentenced to four months in prison.
