Companies need to take action!
Organisations who’s employees drive on company business need to consider Duty of Care Legislation according to The RAC. It doesn’t matter what the nature of the business or the length of the journey if an employee is out on company business in either their own or a vehicle Duty of Care Legislation applies.
In the unfortunate event of one of your employee’s being involved in an incident whilst out on company business the police will immediately become involved and it is the companies responsibility to demonstrate that policies and procedures are in place and have been communicated to the workforce. If it is evident that companies have not complied with this law the result may be financial penalties or even a custodial sentence.
Businesses need to be able to demonstrate that the
* Have a health and safety policy for company drivers
* That this policy has been communicated to all employees
