Decelerometer Used On HEV’s

Hybrid Electric Vehicles That Can Only Be Tested By A Decelerometer

In the latest VOSA Commercial Vehicle MOT Inspection Manual, the HEV’s are specified that can be tested only by a decelerometer.

The manual states, “attention must be paid to Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). Due to the nature of the control systems some vehicles cannot be tested on the Roller Brake Tester and must receive a decelerometer brake test.

Some vehicles have a regenerative braking system connected to the service brake system. If the regenerative system cannot be disconnected from the service brake, a decelerometer brake test is required. If the regenerative system can be disconnected and the vehicle control system allows a roller brake test this must be carried out.

Brake testing HEVs, with a regenerative brake system must be appropriately charged (appropriately in this context means the red warning light showing there is a defect is not illuminated).

Vehicles that require decelerometer testing are:
Mercedes Axor Bluetec Hybrid.
Optare Solo+.”
