VIEW PRODUCTCatalytic Converter Theft Alarm
CatGuard is a Catalytic Converter Theft alarm.
CatGuard is fitted to a vehicle in less than an hour and if thieves attempt to remove the Catalytic Converter theft alarm will be activated. This will result in a 114 decibel siren or voice alarm giving a deafening warning along with a high intensity flashing strobe to drive the thieves away.
CatGuard has been designed to differentiate between vehicle movement and a cutting device being used on the exhaust. This eliminates potential false alarm activations, any attempt to cut the exhaust pipe or remove the retaining bolts will activate the alarm, saving both lose of catalytic converter and damage to the vehicle.
CatGuard the Catalytic Converter Theft alarm has additional outputs to trigger other security devices. For example these outputs may be used to protect the spare wheel or to trigger an alarm if the bonnet catch is released.
All vehicles produced after 1993 must have a Catalytic Converter fitted by law to help reduce harmful gases from polluting the atmosphere.
Catalytic thieves just simply cutting each end of the system, removing the CAT completely with no regard for the vehicle. Taller vehicles such as Trucks, 4x4s, Motorhomes or Vans are particularly vulnerable as the Catalytic converters are more accessible and because they tend to have larger engines, they contain more of the precious metals.
Insurance companies see Catalytic theft as a major concern, the cost of replacing a CAT Converter can run into thousands and with this usually only the first theft would be covered. Downtime of vehicles following a Catalytic theft could run into days then weeks, leaving a company vehicle car or van fleet in limp mode.
Corporate fleets are particularly vulnerable because thieves can hit multiple vehicles in a single location, reports of 20-30 vans in a business yard have had catalytic converters removed in one night!
